OpenAI ChatGPT is Generative Pre-Trained Transformer which in a family of neural network models that use transformer architecture. To the lay person it ChatGPT is a large language trained model. It can be used for a variety of applications.

Ask it to write a poem about a subject, general queries, ideas for a marketing pitch. One feature it has is to comprehend a narrative and I tried this copying a product data sheets description and table of values.

I did this test last year December 2022 and on this scrapped text.

I think the results are quite promising and over the year I’ve tested ChatGPT asking it to write benefits on passive houses, climate break down solutions, writing tweets on temperature, poems, jokes on trickle down economics, specifications for software applications, writing emails about a maintenance issue. It has been a great help when trying to organise ideas.

We now see Microsoft’s Edge browser incorporating Bing Chat into the browser.

For people writing research both Bing Chat and ChatGPT provide references and it is important to read and understand what they generate because they are only as good as there training data. I see them at the moment as idea generators.

Who knows what 2024 will hold.
